Weight: 2.4 lbs. Customer Reviews View all reviews Write a review of 2nd Generation ECWCS Parka Nice but NOT warm! I had read up a little on this supposedly Generation II ECWS parka before buying it. Before purchasing it I had the impression that even though it was not constructed with multiple diverse layers of materials and instead only of some lightweight unique layering of Gortex, that it was engineered to be extremely warm just by puting it on. This jacket is designed as an independent piece and NOT to zip or button in a an extra lining. I personally found this jacket to provide little protection or resistance against the cold and I was FREEZING in it a couple of times!! So as with most clothing, if you want to use it you have to wear many layers of warm clothing under it. In this case I realize I should have purchased the original yet still current ECWS parka that is designed with optional built in layers. The outer jacket seems to look the same anyway and likely just comes with more adjustable layers for the same price as Gen I. However, I must say it is a beautiful jacket, easy to move in, and very sturdily crafted. Overall, I have simply deemed it only useful as a great spring and fall raincoat, but the buck stops there. If you want to sew in a warm sheeps fur liner it could likely be a great winter coat. But, the stitching done for that would likely make the stylish parka look externally crappy. I still may see if I can somehow or somewhere make an exchange on it. Believe it or not I find the old reliable M-65 field jacket with a liner is warmer than this GEN II coat, but the M-65 can not not be a great rain coat like the GEN II. Gustaf DeSimone - May 22, 2006 Incredibly Comfortable Boots I purchased a pair of these boots for when I was involved with the Civil Air Patrol, and have continued using them ever since leaving that organization. They are the best boots I have ever owned. I have since grown out of my first pair of boots, but plan on purchasing a secondary pair as soon as I can afford it. They re extremely comfortable right out of the box, and the spit-shineable toe cap and heel really make them look incredible. The top cap is very firm and I questioned whether or not it actually was a safety toed boot after my purchase (although it actually is not a safety toe boot). The speed laces work extremely well and because the boots are all leather, they are waterproof (yes, I did test this out on many occasions). The padded collar makes a world of difference if you plan on using these boots with only athletic socks and not a full length boot sock.
